The Institute for Applied Radiation Sciences

In June 1999, The Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) provided funding to a group of scientists at McMaster to establish The Institute for Applied Radiation Sciences. The provincial government has recently provided a matching grant. The institute is designed to foster innovative radiation-based research, which will have an impact not only on fundamental knowledge but also on the quality of life for Canadians. The award included funding to renovate the Nuclear Research Building (NRB) in order to create a nexus through which international, multi-disciplinary collaborations can take place in such areas as bone architecture measurements by MRI, radiopharmaceutical development and the measurement of trace elements in vivo to mention just a few examples. The renovations are currently in the planning and design state.
