Dr. Dan Sorensen, NMR Application Specialist Print

Dr. Dan Sorensen’s area of expertise is isolation and structural elucidation of small organic molecules from complex biological matrices. His extensive industrial experience in the areas of Natural Product Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, and Drug Metabolism forms a solid basis for his current role as NMR Application Specialist at McMaster University, where he specializes in solution-state NMR studies of small molecules and provides service to internal and external clients of the NMR facility.

Dr. Sorensen holds a Bachelor, Master of Science, and PhD degree in chemistry from University of Copenhagen. After the closure of the Merck Frosst Centre for Therapeutic Research in Montreal, where he served as manager of the Analytical & Spectroscopy Department and was engaged in research in medicinal chemistry and drug metabolism, he joined McMaster University in 2011. Previous experience includes discovery of novel antibiotics and anti-cancer lead compounds at Ecopia BioSciences Inc.

Dr. Sorensen has authored and co-authored 22 publications and patents. He is a recipient of two Merck awards for excellence and currently holds a position as Adjunct Research Professor at Carleton University. In collaboration with Carleton University and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, he is currently undertaking a study of natural products from endophytic microfungi.
