MAX3D A Program for the Visualization of Reciprocal Space Authors: Jim Britten (Crystallographer) Weiguang Guan (Research Engineer) MAX3D is a software package designed to read a series of 2D diffraction images and provide a visualization of a solid volume of reciprocal space. Tools are included to:
adjust the opacity as a function of intensity, to zoom and rotate,
to examine slices or 2q shells,
identify 2q and fractional hkl points,
and reload subsections of reciprocal space at higher resolution.
MAX3D is available from Download Current version is 2.5. Windows 32bit (v2.5), Windows 64bit( v2.5), Linux (v2.0) Installation Unzip the downloaded zip file. Run setup.exe and follow the installation wizard. The default location (if you don't change it) is "C:\Program Files\McMaster University\MAX3D 2.5". Activation The first time you run MAX3D you will be asked to input user information and CD-key shown as below
(NOTE: Your computer must have network access because the CD-key will be validated on the MAX3D server at McMaster University). Once it is activated, a file named "max3d.lic will be created in the same directory where you install MAX3D. Keep a copy of license file in a safe place, which is valid for later version of MAX3D. If you are a current user, you simply have to replace the .exe file in the installation directory.
New! A Quantum and MAR to pseudo-Bruker converter is available for testing. (di2bruker: 64bit version). It runs in a cmd window, and executing with no arguements will list the expected input parameters. The resulting SMART type frames can be loaded by MAX3D (and Bruker's APEX2).
