Ph.D. Students
Students with a solid background in physical chemistry and/or applied
physics and/or engineering physics are welcome to apply for the Ph.D.
or the Masters program (with an intention to transfer to the Ph.D.
program). A strong mechanical and/or electrical aptitude is necessary
for most projects since you will be maintaining and modifiying your own
equipment. As a graduate student in our group, you will work
independently and at the same time take an active interest in other
projects of the group. You will also represent the group at conferences
with posters and talks about your research and publish 3 (or more,
depending on your project) papers in peer-reviewed journals. There are
also certain requirements set by the Department of
Chemistry.
Masters Students
There are masters projects available in the group. The nature of the
projects will be similar to those of Ph.D. students, however generally
of a less challenging and less diverse nature due to the time
limitations. Please check the departmental
website for requirements to join the program.
Undergraduate Senior Thesis Projects
You are welcome to join our group for your senior thesis project (Chem
4G09). Several suitable projects will be listed on the Chem 4G09 Course
website every year. You are welcome to propose variations to these
projects. Thesis projects may be available through departments other
than Chemistry.
Summer Students
As a 'Summer Student' you may or may not have had previous research
experience. You may have worked in our group before, or in a different
research group. Your background can be in chemistry, physics or
engineering. You will spend some of your time learning, but you will
given a real research project and a senior group member will supervise
you. Students at McMaster and other Canadian as well as international
universities are encouraged to explore summer opportunities within our
group. One of the summer student programs that you should consider for
supplementary funding is the NSERC
USRA.
Visiting Scholars/Postdoctoral Fellows
If you are interested in our research, please contact me to discuss
options. At this point, you will need to bring your own funding.
