Acadia University
London, ON - August 22-23, 2008

The 13th Annual RISE Workshop was held on August 22-23, 2008 at Acadia University in Wolfville, NS. The Workshop began on Friday evening with the traditional mixer, which was held in the K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre on the Acadia campus.  The four-hour gathering allowed the thirteen 2008 RISE Scholars, faculty participants, and other guests to meet and get acquainted (or re-acquainted) with one another. The group welcomed in particular Dr. Michelle Chretien of the Xerox Research Centre of Canada and Professor Gonzalo Cosa of McGill University, who joined the RISE group last fall in time for the 2007/08 competition. Herself a RISE alumna, Dr. Chretien bears the particular distinction (among many) of being the first "second generation" member of the RISE group. The Workshop began at 9:00 a.m. the next morning, with a few opening remarks from Workshop host Matt Lukeman. This was then followed by a series of presentations from the students on the research they carried out during the summer.  The day wrapped up with a fabulous meal at The Blomidon Inn in Wolfville.

The 2008 RISE Group owes special thanks to NSERC Atlantic, the Council of Canadian University Chemistry Chairpersons (CCUCC), and the Faculties of Science at Acadia and the University of Prince Edward Island for generous financial support, and to Dr. Matt Lukeman for organizing, the 2008 RISE Workshop.
